Hawaii Island’s biggest night of surfing cinema, the Kona Surf Film Festival 2017 presented by Altres, will take place from 4-10 p.m. Saturday on the beach side of the Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

“The original” international surf film festival, the Kona Surf Film Festival celebrates its 13th year of film, music, art, food and good vibrations under the stars. The festival showcases independent shorts and feature films from Hawaii and global surf filmmakers.

“The festival is a chance for filmmakers to expose their work to surfers and nonsurfers alike in a really fun atmosphere,” said festival founder and program director Chad Campbell. “The films are very diverse and really creative, with awesome stories, action and soundtracks.”

The 2017 festival film lineup includes:

• “The Aloha Project,” highlighting Hawaii heroes.

• The magical “Given,” starring the Goodwin family.

• The heart-pounding action documentary “Distance Between Dreams” starring Ian Walsh.

• A handful of amazing short films.

In addition to the films, there will be live music by Ron Artis II, Moni and others. There also will be more than 30 vendors from East and West Hawaii and beyond, and art installations by Hawaii and international artists.

Beach chairs, blankets, sweatshirts and aloha recommended. Food and beer will be available for purchase. No coolers please.

Tickets range from $10-$25 and are available online at www.konasurffilmfestival.org/buy-tickets.
